Wages: $70,789.28 - $92,025.58 per year (Salaried Position) in addition to a comprehensive benefit package.
Under the general direction of the County Administrator, the Chief Public Defender develops, implements, oversees and directs the Public Defender Office and the indigent defense contract system. Responsible for staffing the Public Defender Office, creating and supervising all attorney contracts and/or attorney rosters within the contract system, ensuring that St. Joseph County meets all constitutional and legislative requirements pertaining to the representation of indigent adults and providing a high level of indigent defense services. The incumbent supervises and directs staff, monitors all contracts and attorney rosters for compliance, develops and implements policies and procedures, performs the department’s administrative functions and prepares the department’s annual budget.
