The Sheriff, by Statute, is responsible for operating the County Jail. The Jail Division maintains all functions related to jail and inmate management, ensuring a safe, secure, and humane environment for all individuals in our care.

The St. Joseph County Jail operates 24 hours a day with a dedicated team of twenty-four (24) full-time and four (4) part-time employees, including four Corrections Sergeants. Our staff is trained to manage the complexities of modern inmate management while upholding the highest standards of professional conduct.
