Follow the legal requirements and steps below to apply for your license in St. Joseph County.

Action Required
Begin your application online before visiting the Clerk’s office. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
Required for your Appointment:
- Original Birth Certificates (both applicants)
- Valid Photo ID (both applicants)
Application Requirements
Where to Apply
Apply in the county where one of the applicants resides. Once issued, the license is valid anywhere in the State of Michigan.
Out-of-State Residents
If neither applicant is a Michigan resident, you must apply in the county where the ceremony will take place.
The 3-Day Waiting Period
There is a 3-day waiting period after applying before the license can be issued. The license expires 33 days from the application date.
License Fees
Michigan Residents: $20.00
Out-of-State Residents: $30.00
Waiver (Immediate Issue): + $25.00

Marriage Officiants
The couple is responsible for determining the legality of their officiant.
