The Clerk of the Court is the record keeper for all lawsuits filed in the 45th Circuit Court. The Clerk of the Court’s Office files divorces, other family matters including paternity, custody, and support, civil actions with damages exceeding $25,000, or other civil matters in which the 45th Circuit Court has jurisdiction. The Clerk of the Court also maintains all records filed in felony cases and collects payments for fines, costs, and restitution ordered in criminal matters. Court files are public information.
While it is important to know what the Clerk of the Court does, it is also important to understand that the Clerk of the Court cannot provide legal advice. The law expressly prohibits the clerk and deputies from advising litigants on legal issues. While it may be frustrating for people who choose to represent themselves, we will recommend that you contact an attorney for any legal question.
