The Mission of the Human Resource Department is to provide services to both the citizens of St. Joseph County and the County employees.
The Human Resource Department is responsible for the recruitment, classification, training, employee relations, employee record-keeping, compensation, and benefit administration of the County employees. It serves as an information center for employees and management for issues such as disciplinary issues, employee evaluations, wage and salary administration and compliance with labor and civil rights laws. The Department formulates and interprets personnel policies, which are consistent with the needs and objectives of St. Joseph County.
The Human Resource Department's Purchasing Coordinator handles the procurement of goods and services for the departments of St. Joseph County in a timely, efficient, and cost-effective manner while complying with the federal, state, and local law as well as the policies of the Board of Commissioners. This individual also handles inventory of all property and equipment and repair of most office equipment throughout the county. Examples of such include copy machines, recording equipment, typewriters, and furniture.
Switchboard and county mail are handled within the Human Resource Department. While all departments have their own direct telephone numbers, the public can still use a main number to receive general information or direction to the appropriate department. The number is (269) 467-5500 and is operational Monday thru Friday 8:00 – 5:00p.m. All outgoing mail is processed in Human Resources and interoffice mail is sorted and disbursed within the Human Resource office.
The Human Resource Department also exclusively handles the scheduling of county meeting rooms as well as county owned vehicles that are available for staff to use when traveling on county business.
