UIFSA allows an order to be established or enforced in a state where the payer lives.
Michigan Order
If you have a Michigan order and all enforcement efforts have been exhausted, you can contact the Friend of the Court Office and request that a UIFSA request be sent to the payer's state.
Other State
Order If your order was issued by another state, and you now live in Michigan, you can contact the support specialist at the Department of Human Services (DHS) and request that a referral be made to the Friend of the Court Office for a UIFSA request to be sent to the payer's state. The support specialist's telephone number is 866-661-0005. You may also download a Child Support Services Application
(PDF - 251 KB) from this website and return it to the address shown on the form.
If your order was issued by another state, and both parties now reside in Michigan, you can contact the support specialist at the DHS and request that a referral be made to the Friend of the Court Office to have the order registered in the State of Michigan.
No Order
If you do not have a court order, and the other party resides in another state, you can contact the support specialist at the DHS and request that a referral be made to the Child Support Division of the Prosecuting Attorney's Office for establishment of a child support order.
Please note that we must be able to verify an address for the payer in order to pursue a UIFSA request for you.*
