Fees: $13.00 for the first certified copy of a death certificate.
  $4.00 for each subsequent copy of the same record.

Requests must be for persons who PASSED AWAY in St. Joseph County. Death records for St. Joseph County start with the year 1867.

Death records are open to the public. Death certificates are filed in the county where the death occurred. You can obtain a death certificate for anyone who passed away in St. Joseph County by filling out the DEATH CERTIFICATE REQUEST FORM and mailing it to the St. Joseph County Clerk with the appropriate fee or by bringing it in person with the appropriate fee. You can also search the Death Record Index (see the link bar below) to see if the death certificate for a given person is on file with the St. Joseph County Clerk. The Death Record Index covers the years 1867 – 2006.
